DORSET NORTH TO SOUTH
STURMINSTER NEWTON TO WEYMOUTH PAVILION
WEYMOUTH ONE WORLD GROUP SPONSORED CYCLE
Traversing Dorset rivers: Stour, Bere, Piddle, Frome, Mayne, Jordan, Lod, Wey and lots of Winterbornes.
On Saturday 18th October a team of Weymouth One World Group members, together with friends and supporters, will cycle from Sturminster Newton to Weymouth Pavilion to raise funds for the Samaritans Charity and the work of Hope House with young people across Weymouth.
This venture was dreamt up by retired Weymouth teacher Andy Dukes who has previously conducted Sherborne to Arne and Weymouth to Swanage rides, with now-retired Rector of Radipole and Melcombe Regis Churches Rev. Nick Clarke and friends, to support local Ukrainian Refugee families.
Andy, along with far too many others, has lost friends taking their own lives, and the UK has ongoing appalling levels of suicide, among the highest in the world. Of equal alarm are the spiralling levels of mental illness, especially with young people.
Samaritans is the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen. People who’ve been there before with those struggling now. If you need someone to talk to, Samaritans listen. They won’t judge or tell you what to do. Whatever you’re going through, you can call Samaritans free, any time day or night, on 116 123.

Having taught at Wey Valley and Budmouth Schools in Weymouth over 35 years, Andy is acutely aware of the ever-deepening problems faced by young people. Due to poverty, disaffection and mental illness – often linked to the lure of addictive behaviours and self-abuse, lack of opportunity and future aspiration, government cuts to youth services and so little to do in the community – often leading to anti-social behaviour and crime, Weymouth is not a great place to grow up for so many of our youngsters.
Hope House is a Youth, Children’s and Community Centre in Weymouth. A range of youth and children’s groups meet there every week and there are events throughout the year. Hope House is next door to St John’s Church, Greenhill and owned and run by a team of local churches. The aim is to provide a range of transformative services for children, young people and families. The values of Hope House are: Renewing Hope, Sharing Faith and Showing Love. Our aim is to provide a range of transformative services for children, families and young people. MOMENTUM 2025 / £11,000
Our annual conference (16th-18th May) to gather and galvanise the local church into living a missional lifestyle centred around worship & prayer, scripture and evangelism. This is sandwiched between 7 days of outreach events in the biggest cities of Albania and Kosovo (12th-14th, 20th-22nd & 24th May).
OUTREACH BURSARY FUND / £4,000
A bursary fund to enable young Albanians to go on outreach trips to their brother nations further East at a discounted and affordable price. Locations previously included Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan.
DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL (DTS) ALBANIAN BURSARY FUND / £19,000
The DTS is YWAM’s 6 month Discipleship Training School. The actual cost is over €4000 per student which includes 3 months lecture phase (accommodation, food, tuition) and 3 months outreach (travel, ministry, living costs). We have capped the price for Albanians at €2500 (still a lot of money in a nation where €400 per month is the average salary) and are believing to raise the difference for 15 students.
DTS BASEMENT > CLASSROOM REFURBISHMENT / £8,000
We have a large basement in our “base” which we would love to convert to be a spacious and private DTS classroom, away from our outreach centre “The Space”.

Winter sets in, the days get shorter and the darkness can seem overwhelming. As we prepare for Christmas, homes in Radipole and
across the town begin sparkling as people decorate inside and out. These lights are a reminder that Jesus is the Light of the World, and at Christmas we celebrate Him coming to live among us and be a light to guide us.
Everyone is welcome to our celebrations and services, where you can be filled with the light and hope of Jesus.

On the 17th January 2024 Mary Millard, Pat Murray and Pam Palmer made a Mission Trip to Rwanda on behalf of the team. They returned in early February brimming with stories of what they saw and the people they encountered.
Funds raised through the parish have enabled the purchase of, not only two cows, but also two cowsheds and a sheep for Transformational Ministries (TM).

After many silent years, the bell at St. Ann’s church has now been repaired and rehung in the tower. Margaret Horton, churchwarden for many years, was pleased to ring out the call for Sunday worship this week.
This is a photo of the new “church” that arrived in St. Ann’s church car park this week. This Bug Church was made by a member of our congregation, Peter Kirby, to mirror the church building and its bell tower. The 2nd Radipole Guide company, who meet at the church schoolroom on Friday evenings, are going to maintain it during term times. This is part of our work as an Eco Church.
