The Archbishop of Canterbury

Is visiting to Weymouth and Portland On the 10th June 2023

Outline of the programme

Act 1:
8.00 for 8.30am start: Breakfast with Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Venue: Admiralty Hotel, Southwell, Portland.

Justin Welby will give a brief intro on the subject of ‘Leading Faithfully in 2023’ which then leads into a Q & A session with invited guests. Guests invited are those under the category of political, business and community leaders across Weymouth and Portland.

Act 2:
10.15 to 10.30 start: The Archbishop takes a walk along the seafront. Starting at Weymouth Pavilion continuing all the way to Hope House (St John’s Church).

Act 3:
11.00 to 12.00pm: Time in Hope House, to meet and engage with young people in the area. (All young people connected with churches, or invited by church members, are welcome to come along and enjoy time spent in Hope House.) Publicity will be sent out to all Deanery Churches and churches of other denominations.

12.00pm to 12.30pm: A short act of worship leading to the dedication of Hope House in its vision to be a resource for young people in the town. The Parish of Radipole and Melcombe Regis with Chickerell is invited to share in this outdoor service.

Act 4:
Community Fun Day. 12.30pm to 4pm: BBQ and community Fun Day – Plenty of fun activities to enjoy
– Stalls/Info ‘desks’ set up inside St John’s Church by each of the church’s frontline social action projects.
The Archbishop would like to have time speaking with the leaders of these groups.

2pm The Archbishop speaks about his faith, to share the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ. Bring a non-Christian guest!! The Archbishop to spend time meeting people and having conversations.
